Cosy nights in: How to start a book club by the gas fire this autumn

There’s something about autumn that makes us slow down. The nights get darker, the jumpers come out, and suddenly the idea of curling up with a good book becomes all the more appealing. Add a gas fireplace, a glass of wine (or hot chocolate), plus some great company—and you’ve got the perfect setup for your very own book club.

Set the scene

Think cosy cushions, fluffy blankets, and your gas fireplace quietly flickering away in the background. Arrange some comfortable seating and create a warm, welcoming space where conversation and laughter can flow. Add a grazing platter, a bottle of red, or a pot of tea, and you’ve just earned yourself hostess with the mostess status.

Keep it simple

Book clubs shouldn’t feel like homework. Decide early how often you’ll meet (once a month is a popular rhythm), and take turns hosting. You could even rotate who chooses the book, just keep it easy and fun.
